♠ About Spades

01-cover

Spades is dark modern fantasy dealing with the true natures of magic, knowledge, politics, and Love. Kanon, a man with no memories, awakes in an strange city whose citizens are terrorized by chaotic magic. In his search to find his past and the cause of his immense guilt, he is driven to aid the tired city and protect them from what they fear. He will truly discover what it is to know yourself, and what the world has been missing the entire time…

Spades was created in the summer of 2000 when DCM uttered aloud in a car in Greensboro, NC, USA: “I want my own Superhero, dammit.” Since then she’s been striving to redefine and explore the superhero on her own terms. Spades is that continuing attempt, and an exercise in her own philosophy, interests, and expression. It debuted that summer on her website, and then on Girlamatic.com in 2002. It’s also a little known fact that Kanon is love <3

♠ About the Creator

Diana Cameron McQueen (Diana, DCM) is an textbook case Aries, and a natural born Jersey Girl who grew up in Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Raleigh. Yes, it was weird.

She’s been in love with drawing and self-expression in all forms since as far back as she can remember. She’s been drawing since she was able to hold a pencil, and she proffered images over words. Nevertheless, she can communicate in English and to a lesser degree Japanese.

Diana finds that Spades is the one long term project that never suffered defeat because it’s actually her brain embodied on dead trees. It’s hard to set aside all that you are, even if you really want to. She hopes that people will delight in the hidden details and mystery of it as she does when she’s drawing it. She also hopes it makes sense to at least one other person! She’s always been an unyielding optimist.

Diana is editor of Girlamatic.com, an amazing webcomic magazine that scouts, publishes, and promotes artists who self-promote their comics and retain their complete creator rights.
